East Africa = earliest human like species
Human spread = Africa > Europe > Asia > "land bridge" (Asia, Alaska, America's)
Prehistory divided = stages of tool development
Neolithic> Bronze> Iron age
 Plants and animals not yours until gathered or killed, same with the land
Paleolithic age = earliest and longest period of prehistory, humans used simple stone tools
Neolithic age = period in human history characterized by advances in stone tool making and beginnings of agriculture.
Agricultural revolution (Neolithic revolution) = shift from hunting and gathering food to more settled way of life based. 8000-4000, places: western Asia, northern Africa and Europe.
first agricultural villages = southwestern Asia
ladder (status) really important
polythesim = the belief in many gods and goddess
important traditions and customs governed life of families and villages = connected to villages
Agricultural Revolution accompanied by the shift in the pattern of relations between men and women.
AR = made men main suppliers of food
Next Step: Rise of the first true civilizations
Sumer = development between Tigris and Euphrates = (Syria and Iraq) back then called Mesopotamia; land of rivers, swamps with little rainfall
Farmers relied on irrigation to live in Sumer
 Rise of civilization = change of local climate > more people
